歴史は古く室町時代後期（1530年代）に榎津久米之介によって船大工の技術を活かして指物※を作り始めたことが起源と言われています。
時代の変化にあわせ、船大工から指物へ、指物から箱物へと伝統産業、伝統技術を継承し、常に進化している産地ともいえます。
近年は、家具製造業が中心となり、建具や床材、壁材等の住宅資材、化粧合板突板加工、板硝子、家具金物、木工機械、刃物研磨、塗装業などの関連産業や、家具卸、小売、輸送システムまで、家具産業に携わる産業を集積した他に類を見ない産地を形成しています。
ニッポネアでは、箱物家具を中心に多岐にわたる商品を企画しています。

The Okawa district, that is located at Chikugo river estuary, the largest primary river in Kyushu, is famous for the highest output furniture in Japan.
The history states that the Japanese joinery work started back in Muromachi period (1530), by a shipbuilder named Enokidu Kumenosuke.
It can be also said, that in accordance with the changes in time, this is a production area that continues to improve by continuously inheriting the traditional industries and techniques of shipbuilders from joinery to box items.

1900年頃に家具としては、椅子の生産を始めていきます。今でこそ主流となっている脚物家具からスタートしたことも、飛騨の特徴といえます。
またアルプスに存在したブナ材を用いることで、曲げ木にも取り組みヨーロッパの技術も取り込んでいきます。

The Hida Takayama district, sitting on the northern side of the Hida Mountains, called the North Alps, is a furniture producing area with one of the best technologies in the country.
Hida is outstanding as a woodworking technology, and there have been descriptions of wooden buildings dated around 700 years ago.
Starts producing chairs as furniture in 1900. The Hida main legged furniture is famous even now.
More, Hida’s legged furniture expand its technology by using the beech present in the Alps, the wood bending technology and by incorporating the European technologies.
